SUMMARY
Charades for Cash is a game in which up to 20 Players each Wednesday night – ACT OUT a clue for a word/phrase for the Majestic Theater’s 229 audience members to try to guess. The words/phrases (i.e. title of a book, play, movie, etc.) to be acted out are created by audience members.
The Player that successfully gets the audience to guess their word/phrase the fastest through three rounds of play wins a cash prize. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners from each Wednesday night are automatically entered into the Finale on August 22nd.
Advance reservations for up to 15 Players per week are accepted by calling the Majestic. At least 5 walk-in Players will be chosen randomly from the audience each Wednesday. Players must be at least 13 – WATCHERS can be all ages!

PARTICIPANTS
JUDGE (HOST) – The game’s host. The Judge is responsible for listening to the audience and determining if the correct guess for the word/phrase being acted out is called out by an audience member.
TIME/SCORE KEEPER – Seated at a table on the Majestic Stage. Responsible for keeping time and posting Player rankings on the scoreboard.
PLAYER – Up to 20 audience members.
AUDIENCE – Word/phrase creators and guessers.
SET- UP
Upon entering the Majestic Theater audience members are greeted and asked to pay the General Admission and Charades for Cash word/phrase fee of $3. They are shown to the Charades for Cash entry table. At the table they are given/shown the following instructions:
Step 1
Fill out a Word/Phrase Entry form.
Step 2
If you want to be a Player tonight and act out Charades on stage – fill out the Player Entry form.
Step 3
Find a seat in the theater and get ready to watch, laugh and shout your answers to the Players Charades.
On the entry table are the following forms:
Word/Phrase Entry Form – This form allows each person to write a word/phrase and indicate the applicable category to be acted out. These words/phrases are placed in a barrel. The JUDGE will randomly select one form that will be acted out by that evening’s players during each round.
PLAYER Entry Form – this form is offered to every person who attends. They must complete this form IF they want to play Charades for Cash that evening. These completed forms will be placed in a separate barrel. Up to 20 players every Wednesday night will be allowed to play. 15 – reservations and up to 5 walk-in Players will be selected at random by the JUDGE.

RULES and GAME PROCESS
The Charades for Cash game will start at 7:05p.m. The JUDGE will take the word/phrase entry barrel and place it beside his table on the Majestic stage. The TIME/SCORE KEEPER will enter all of the Players names on the scoreboard.
The JUDGE greets the audience and reviews the rules:
Each PLAYER will have a maximum of TWO minutes to successfully act out their Charade and have an audience member correctly guess their word/phrase. The JUDGE will determine the correct guess.
No speaking, lip movements or inappropriate gestures are allowed. The JUDGE may disqualify a PLAYER for any reason they feel is warranted.
The TIME/SCORE KEEPER will time how long the Charade takes before the JUDGE determines that an audience member has correctly guessed the word/phrase. The TIME/SCORE KEEPER will enter how long their Charade took in each Round. The TIME/SCORE KEEPER will post each Player’s form on the scoreboard.
Rounds of Play:
Round 1 - all 20 PLAYERS.
Round 2 - all 20 PLAYERS.
Total times from Round 1 and Round 2 are calculated.
The 10 fastest PLAYERS move on to Round 3.
Round 3 - 10 PLAYERS
Words/phrases to be acted out are created by Majestic staff.
Total times from Round 1, Round 2 and Round 3 are calculated.
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd total fastest Players win cash prizes.

No sounds, lip movements or inappropriate gestures!
20 Second Penalty for any of the above as determined by the Judge.
These standard hand signals are not required to be used by each player. They are only provided to help each player quickly act out a clue to their word or phrase.
Correct Guess - Touch your nose with your index finger and point to the correct guesser with your other index finger.
Person - Stand with hands on hips.
Book Title Unfold your hands as if they were a book.
Movie title Pretend to crank an old-fashioned movie camera.
Play title Pretend to pull the rope that opens a theater curtain.
Song title Pretend to sing.
TV show Draw a rectangle to outline the TV screen.
Quote or phrase - Make quotation marks in the air with your fingers.
Location - Make a circle with one hand, then point to it, as if pointing to a dot on a map.
Event - Point to your wrist as if you were wearing a watch.
Thing - Make the "crazy" signal, i.e. point to your head and wave your finger in a circle.
Computer Game - Using both hands out stretched move thumbs like using a game pad.
Website - Hold your hand out, palm down, horizontal to the ground (as if holding a computer mouse). Make a sweeping motion side to side, as if moving a coconut half on table ("navigating"), then stop and tap index finger (as if "clicking").
To indicate other characteristics of the word or phrase:
Number of words in the phrase Hold up the number of fingers.
Which word you're working on Hold up the number of fingers again.
Number of syllables in the word Lay the number of fingers on your arm.
Which syllable you're working on Lay the number of fingers on your arm again.
Length of word - Make a "little" or "big" sign as if you were measuring a fish.
"The entire concept" Sweep your arms through the air.
"Sounds like" Cup one hand behind an ear, or pull on your earlobe.
"Longer version of …" Pretend to stretch a piece of elastic.
"Shorter version of…" Do a "Karate" karate chop" with your hand.
"Plural" Link your little fingers.
"Proper Name" Tap the top of your head with an open palm.
"Past tense" Wave your hand over your shoulder toward your back.
A letter of the alphabet Move your hand in a chopping motion toward your arm (near the top of your forearm if the letter is near the beginning of the alphabet, and near the bottom of your arm if the letter is near the end of the alphabet).
A color Point to your tongue, then point to an object of the color you're trying to convey. If no objects are available, then pantomime an object that typically possesses the color in question.
"Close, keep guessing!" Frantically wave your hands about to keep the guesses coming, or pretend to fan yourself, as if to say "getting hotter".
"Not even close, I'll start over" Wave hand in a wide sweep, as if to say "go away!" Alternatively, pretend to shiver, as if to say "getting colder". The hand is moved as if flushing a toilet, meaning forget whatever has been done till now and to start afresh.
"A synonym" or "A word or phrase that means the same thing" Clasp your hands together and then, rotating your clasped hands from the wrists, simulate multiple figure 8's.
"The opposite" Form each hand into a hitchhiker's thumb signal, then with the backs of the hands facing away from you, cross your forearms and make the thumbs travel in opposing directions, thus "opposite".
"Stop, work on something else" Hold both arms out in front of you, palms of your hands waving, facing your teammates, while simultaneously shaking your head, eyes closed.
